Describing this car as “clean” is such a huge understatement, it borders on insult. Immaculate, Impecable, Pristine all fall short. So while I try to come up with an anology that does this car justice, lets take a look at what we had.
Our customer had been in contact with us for a couple of weeks trying to make sure he had everything perfect for the tuning date. Top on the list was his fuel system since the car was going to be tuned on E85. He wanted to make sure he had the right size injectors, correct fuel lines and enough pump. 1000 cc squirters, along with dual pumps and teflon fuel lines were enlisted to provide enough ethanol. Making use of that fuel system was a PTE 6262, dual ball bearing, billet turbo. The head has been full CNC ported by Head Games and is running Tomei 272 cams and valve train. The block has been upgraded to Arias pistons and the stock rod fasteners replaced with ARP hardware. On the cold side of things he has a GReddy intake manifold and intercooler. On the hot side is a Full Race turbo manifold, Tial short boy 38mm wastegate, 3″ down pipe and 3″ exhaust. Controlling all of these go fast goodies is a Tomei ECU. Dan had experience with this ECU before when he tuned Kenji Yamanaka’s S15 drift car.
Keeping the car planted to the pavement, or at least trying to, is a set of K Sport coilovers, Gram Light 57 Pro’s (the Ti version), and some Nitto Extreme NT05 tires. Stock calipers mated to a set of slotted rotors will reel this car in to a stop. The visual aspects of the car are all class and not too much flash. Exterior has the factory Spec R upgrade and a rear wing delete. Interior is mostly stock with a set of Bride seats wrapped in suede. The thing that impressed me the most I think was the spotlessness of the car as a whole and more specifically the engine bay. It was truly the cleanest of any engine bay I have ever seen on a driven car. Everything looked brand new.
Oh yeah by the way there was some tuning performed too! Dan had scheduled the car for a half day tuning session and he used every minute of it to maximize the performance and driveability. After the smoke cleared the Silvia was making 585 whp! On stock rods and without a peep from the knock sensor. Let me say that again. 585 whp on stock rods and stock sleeves without a peep from the knock sensor. Our customer wanted to push a little further but his buddy (who helped build the car) and Dan agreed that it was a good time to call it quits. This is the highest horsepower stock sleeved SR20det that has been through the shop. Everyone here was left standing with big stupid grins as we were only expecting around 500 whp. This is all a testament to getting the right parts, installing them properly and getting a great tune.
This car is so clean its sterile. This car is so clean drug cartels are trying to cut it up and sell it in powder form. This car is so clean it’ll make you wanna smack your momma! LOL alright I’m done, feel free to share your own analogies.
