The basic tear down is just about complete. Next we will be removing the front upper support mounts to make a large amount of room. On this project we will need as much free space as possible for all the goodies that will go with our new setup.

Time Saver Tip

Are you done removing everything from the inside of your car only to be staring at that sound deadening material that is seriously glued all over your floor? This substance can be removed easily to save weight and expose the floor pans that may have decayed and need repair.

This is an old trick that will save you a lot of headache when stripping out the interior of your soon to be race car. Pick-up some dry ice from your local distributor, we chose Marietta Dry Ice. At $.80 per lb this stuff is very inexpensive so don’t worry about getting too much. Place ice blocks on sections of the material and wait a few minutes for the ice to transfer the temperature. Remove the ice and hit the deadening material with a mallet. This will shatter and leave nothing but the clean floor pan underneath, easy!

Watercooled & Fuel Injected 914

Installing a Subaru drive-train into our 914 requires the car to have a few conversions, transforming the car from an air-cooled, carbureted design to fuel injected and water-cooled. The customer decided on a RCI fuel cell and Griffin radiator to be mounted up front. We have incorporated rubber mounts for both items to reduce vibration. Ducting will be added soon for the radiator to get air correctly directed straight through the fins for maximum cooling potential. Having both of these tanks in the front will help to equalize the weight of the vehicle.

Another Batlground SCCA Season Class Victory

Batlground Motorsports would like to give a special thanks to James M. Cochran for bringing home a season victory at SCCA competition for 2011. James was competing in a bone stock Yaris for his first year out and took 1st in the H Stock Class. With 399.61 total points, he won by 99.61 points. From novice to 1st, it has been a good year of competition.

We have to mention James is one of our very own Interns that we have been proud to have with us for just over a year.

Our Speed 3 project comes to an end.

We always love that moment when a project comes to an end and it’s time for the customer to try out their newly added performance. This Mazda received a full set of Tein Basis coilovers, Centric rotors, Hawk HPS pads and Goodridge steel braided brake lines for the suspension and braking. To give the Speed 3 more flow and less restriction a Cobb intake and CPE high pressure fuel pump were installed. The stock exhaust setup was replaced with a DNP header, TurboXS downpipe/midpipe and a HKS exhaust. The stock intercooler was upgraded to a CPE top mount intercooler for a much cooler setup. The Speed also got an Apexi turbo timer, Synapse BOV and a Cobb accessPORT. We hit the dyno for a few hours of tuning and came out ahead with 279whp/329Wtq.

Batlground SCCA Season Class Victory

Batlground Motorsports would like to give a special thanks to Theresa Pond for bringing home the season win at SCCA competition for 2011. Theresa piloted our own 2011 Ford Fiesta “Pinky” in the Street Modified Ladies class with 478.76 overall points. Congratulations Theresa!

Another Jeep Project at Batlground

This Grand Cherokee WJ came to us with a bad motor with a couple of destroyed pistons. After years of hard service miles this motor has been removed and shipped off to the machine shop. When the cylinder boring, honing and cleaning is finished this straight six 4.0 will receive a stroker kit and become a more potent 4.6 liter. Stay tuned for more updates on this project as it gets more upgrades during this winter.

Late Night at Batlground

Another late night at Batlground proved to be very productive. Our turbo Supra project came back in after the recommended break in period to have the ARP head studs re-torqued and a 93 octane pump gas tune. This 2JZ is now putting down 590 Whp & 476 Wtq! Check out the dyno chart (we will have a video up on our FB page later). This Supra has plans to come back soon for a race gas tune, we can’t wait to see the results.

This Supra started life as one of the unfortunate non-turbo models. This has been corrected. The customer has chosen a Supra Store turbo kit with a T61 and all of the proper supporting mods. In the end this Supra should be around double the original horsepower making this car all around more fun.

Clearance FAIL

We are currently waiting on the additional lift kit for this truck to arrive, but we had to move this beast for the day. As you can see 7.5″ of lift is not enough room for the 40″ tires. The next lift kit will provide plenty of much needed clearance.
