We managed to find more weight that could be removed from our IS300 drift project. The hood weighed in at 35lbs before modifications, after cutting out the inner shell 10lbs was shaved from the nose of the car. It does not sound like much, but after doing this on multiple parts of the car, the overall weight can be reduced greatly. After removing the skeleton of the hood we ran into issues about how to hold the hood up. Our solution was to modify the hinges so that the hood now lays nicely on the windshield providing full access to the engine bay.

This IS has been completely gutted to make room for a full cage and an interesting drive train. Straying away from the norm, our shop foreman Justin has decided to go with an 4G63 mated to a T56. The motor an trans have been positioned much further back than the stock setup for better weight distribution. This Lexus will feature a dry sump setup with a 3 gallon oil tank for increased cooling. At this stage the motor and mock up trans are now in place to begin the motor mount fabrication.

This is the earliest spooling, equal
length header with the fastest response of any stock location header. The 1.5
scroll header consists of a twin scroll lower manifold utilizing the stock
location for the 1.5 scroll up-pipe. Utilizing ideal cylinder pairing and the
proper implementation of twin scroll technology, huge increases at the low end,
midrange and top end can be achieved while minimizing spool time and improving
throttle response. Proven to make substantial horsepower and torque gains, the
1.5 scroll is the best performing.

The transformation from an air cooled Porsche to water cooled Porsche has begun. Since the 914 is getting a turbo EJ20, the car needs to have a radiator to cool the engine. With the engine in the back, the front was sealed off for storage. We cut out sections of the front of the car so that air can now enter and pass over the radiator. The 2 boxes are mock up for the radiator and fuel cell. The bar is in place so that the chassis will not flex too much while we are making everything since we cut out the factory bar to make room for the fuel cell. In case you are wondering, the air will exit through vents in the hood. Ducting, and vents to be added later.

Since no one makes 1 7/8″ headers for an LS1 IS300, we had to take matters into our own hands and make some. The passenger side header was pretty straight forward. Meanwhile, the driver side header had to wrap around the steering rack. After making sure the headers fit perfectly, the exhaust was fabricated. We used twin 3″ pipes going to an x-pipe and then through magnaflow cans. The muffler selection was made to keep the car a little bit quiet, but so the engine will still be heard over the spinning tires. After the mufflers the exhaust dumps just past the rear axle. The car was then put on the dyno and made a healthy 414 whp, and 378 ftlbs of torque. That is an improvement of 21whp over the old manifold/exhaust setup.

Rust removal on the Porsche 914 continues. After cleaning off the rust we coated the inside of the bars with POR-15 before we welded the bars back into place. The entire floor was coated with POR-15 then primed. Next step is to remove more rust behind the driver’s seat.

In order to prevent fuel sloshing issues with a saddlebag gas tank in the LS1 IS300, the customer decided to have his gas tank cut in half. Then a plate was welded in place of the new large hole on the side of the tank. The only drawback is the estimated 7 gallon holding capacity. This is an inexpensive solution to the problem in comparison to a fuel cell.
