The Handbrake is an essential tool for Drifting. These are examples of a few of the different types available. The Cable Actuated Handbrake is the most commonly used because this type is found on a lot of cars from the factory. But this is definitely not the most preferred method as you will be required to adjust the main cable frequently to stay in good working order. A Tandem Hydraulic Handbrake(also know as staging brakes in the Drag Racing world) is a good choice for more braking power. These use a second Master Cylinder inline with the factory brake line to control the rear calipers separate of the front. However they render the braking modulation on the front wheels useless while the Handbrake is pulled, making perfect braking timing essential when entering a turn. The last type we will touch on is a Stand Alone Hydraulic E-Brake. These combinations use two brake calipers per rear rotor. These setups are costly, more complicated, require custom caliper mounts and individual lines but are the best choice for control and reliability.
